What do you want, expect and need of your website? This is the first thing that we need to understand.
A thorough chat with you about what you want your website to do, your marketing activities and what you’d like to achieve, followed by research into your market/sector/industry and considering your competitors and your customers, etc. With this we can outline just what can be achieved within your budget and also what further investment could accomplish.
Design: following the above we will have a strong idea for your website’s style and will draft some ideas for you to review. Usability is a priority, keeping your customers and visitors very much in mind when designing your website – the information that they are looking for needs to be easy to find and get to – we need to understand what they want and expect. We’ll work with you to be sure that you are totally happy with the design before creating the web pages. Making good use of the images available from you, or sourcing these where required (and even taking photographs ourselves if useful).
Content: working with text you provide to us, in whatever format available, we then develop this and incorporate the phrases for search engine optimisation, to whatever level is required. We work with some highly skilled copy writers too, should your budget allow for this level of professionalism and polish, so you can leave it with us once we understand what you need.
Search Engine Optimisation: As standard we make use of keywords throughout your web pages. At basic level researching the most obvious phrases and making use of the results of this; and at the more detailed level we thoroughly research and apply the best phrases to each page, tailoring these to optimise the website as thoroughly as possible.
Links to your website are important. We will either provide guidance for you to research this yourself (included at basic level SEO), or, at the detailed level we take care of this for you – researching and considering other websites from which a link would be useful, and requesting these on your behalf. Building links to your website is best done gradually, so we’ll take care of this over the year.
Accessibility: All pages will meet required accessibility standards (Disability Discrimination Act 1995 legislation) to a minimum of W3C AA standard (the maximum is AAA - which we do aim for but there may be some small script we want to use that does not meet this). What this all simply means is that people with disabilities will enjoy your website to the same extent as everyone else. For instance, saying “click here” disregards people that do not use a mouse (and we include navigation alternatives for such visitors too). And we consider people with sight impairment by making sure that all images are either described where appropriate or noted for a web page reader to overlook, using flexible text sizing, considering colour blindness, and many other ways.
Visitor statistics: For all websites we set up visitor statistic coding using Statcounter. We provide you with access to this, and if required, will send you a report each month on the numbers of visitors to your website. We’ll keep an eye one the more detailed information available too and make any suggestions that arise from this.
Webmaster Service: This can include the hosting of your website, the domain name registration, setting up of email addresses and helping you to make use of these, and updating the web pages whenever required (indeed encouraging this – the search engines better consider websites that are updated.
Overall: At any time, whatever questions you have, about anything to do with your website and the Internet, we’re happy to help – just ask. We will include your website in our own directory, and keep you in mind wherever appropriate – sometimes we’ll have an idea that might work for you, and so will share that with you. And of course you’ll receive the Business Elements newsletter for small to medium sized businesses.
